Friday, September 4. First Friday! The amazing Mr. Drink Small unplugged will rock this First Friday! Winnsboro's own Juice and Hobson will also appear. Steve Hobson was guitarist for Mama's and Papa's and is amazing in his own right, more so with Juice's Stevie-meets-Janis vocals. 8 p.m. $10 at the door. Friday, September 4. Main Street Marketplace. The Main Street Marketplace is an open-air market featuring fresh produce, baked goods, specialty gifts, art, photography, handmade crafts, and much more from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The market will be held on Boyd Plaza in front of the Columbia Museum of Art at the corner of Main and Hampton Streets in downtown Columbia. Saturday, September 5. Palmetto Capital City Classic. Benedict College takes on West Virginia State University. The Classic is more than a football game. Sunday, September 6. Strong Man Contest. Come see the men of South Carolina show off how strong they are from 11 am to 5 pm. The winner of this competition will go to the National Competition in Las Vegas. Visit Thunder Tower Harley-Davidson for more information.

Sunday, September 6. Sounds of the Shoals. Come out for the first week of the fall concert series at Saluda Shoals Park from 3-5 p.m. Bring a picnic, blanket or chairs and enjoy live music at this fun, family oriented event. Sounds of the Shoals kicks off with J. Edwards – songwriter, musician and vocalist – performing a variety of pop, blues, and everyone’s favorites from the 60’s to today. Monday, September 7. Chapin Labor Day Festival. “Sailing Into Service” is the theme this year and there will be a great parade, Chapin Idol, a Classic Car Show, Gospel Concert, a Children's Carnival, food, fun and so much more! Visit Chapin Labor Day Festival for more information.

Monday, September 7. Labor Day 5K Run & Walk.
The 5K course runs through Crooked Creek Park and includes walking paths and grass trails along the tree lines. The race is the home of the Lake Murray Cross Country Invitational Run and part of the Tour De Columbia. All proceeds benefit the ICRC Meals on Wheels. Thursday, September 10. Healing through Killing: Lessons from the Holocaust. In conjunction with the State Museum's new exhibit Deadly Medicine, this gripping lecture by Eva Mozes Kor, survivor of the deadly genetic experiments conducted by Josef Mengle at Auschwitz during 1944-1945, will surely open your eyes to things you may not have know. This lecture contains mature material and may not be appropriate for children. Free. 7:30 p.m. Visit the SC State Museum for more information.
