Free Seminar at the Chamber, Thursday, October 22, at 6 p.m.  “Tangible Return Investing:  managing your money for income and growth in good times and bad.”  Presented by James C. Owens, Jr., Vice President of Stephens, Inc.
Whether your funds come from inheritance, divorce, a business sale, or a company retirement plan distribution, you are probably faced with a similar concern: how to generate steady income and growth over your lifetime? I will explain a fairly traditional method of investing that perhaps fell out of favor over the past 25 years. Tangible Return Investing should be revisited by anyone who feels like they need a fresh look at how to manage their family nest egg now and in the future.  For more information, please call 343-0144 or email james.owens@stephens.com.
American Red Cross Golf Tournament
Servpro of The Dutch Fork is sponsoring a golf tournament on November 2, 2009 at Golden Hills Country Club to benefit the American Red Cross.  All proceeds will go directly to our local chapter of the American Red Cross.  We are hoping to make this a yearly event.  We realized that they are not getting the donations needed during this economic tough time for all.  We are in need of corporate sponsors, hole sponsors, golf teams and door prizes.  Any help would be great appreciated.
The American Red Cross responds to families affected by a disaster right here in our community every 17 hours.  All disaster relief services are provided free of charge.  The American Red Cross is not a government agency; all of the programs and services are funded through generous gifts by the American public.  Please call Jeannie 803-749-0178 or 803-920-8478 if you wish to help with the golf tournament.

Homes for Sale in Chapin SC on Beautiful Lake Murray

Chapin, South Carolina

Water View from Mayflower Point home

Great real estate still available on or near our beautiful man-made Lake Murray with 53 miles of shoreline.  We have new construction and some awesome previously constructed homes that have been updated and placed on the market.    Know what's also interesting!!   The temperature in Chapin is always about 5 to 7 degrees cooler than it is down in the Capital city of Columbia.  In the heat of the summer, that makes a big difference, especially when you can get a cool breeze from the shores of the fabulous Lake Murray.

When you decide that Chapin is the town for you, please contact me, Robby Milam at 803-237-4885.  I am a local Realtor who specializes in helping folks with all of their real estate needs.

Another Beautiful Day Trip - Brookgreen Gardens

Brookgreen Gardens, Murrells Inlet SC

Fighting Stallions
This beautiful, sprawling, and educational garden museum is worth a visit.  Just a few hours from the Midlands of South Carolina, my assistant spent many hours there with her family.  Her father was an avid photographer and enjoyed the breathtaking sculptures and gardens.

"In 1931, Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington founded Brookgreen Gardens, a non-profit 501(c)(3) garden museum, to preserve the native flora and fauna and display objects of art within that natural setting. Today, Brookgreen Gardens is a National Historic Landmark with the most significant collection of figurative sculpture in an outdoor setting by American artists in the world and has the only zoo accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums on the coast of the Carolinas."

For more information on Brookgreen Gardens, please click here.

Chapin High Named National Blue Ribbon School
Chapin High School has been named a 2009 No Child Left Behind-Blue Ribbon School by United States Department of Education.  The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private K-12 schools that are either academically superior or that demonstrate dramatic gains in student achievement.

Only five schools in South Carolina received the award. The U.S. Department of Education says that schools chosen as National Blue Ribbon recipients are models of excellence that other schools can emulate.

The 16th annual "FBI AGENTS ASSOCIATION CHILDREN'S CLASSIC" golf tournament will be held MONDAY, OCTOBER 12, 2009, at the Woodlands Country Club, 100 Norse Way, Columbia, South Carolina.  The tournament benefits the Memorial College Education Fund, which awards college scholarships to children and spouses of FBI Agents who died (from any cause) while on active duty, or died within one year after retirement from the FBI.  As of January, 2009, the fund has assisted 150 children of 83 deceased FBI Agents.  Thanks to your efforts and generosity, we have raised nearly $300,000 since the inception of this event.  We ask your help for this worthy cause by being a player participant, a sponsor, a contributor, a volunteer, and/or a donor of an item for the auction at the party following the golf tournament.  The single player fee is $175 and includes green and cart fees, a gift package, and an invitation to the Sunday evening reception, and the auction and dinner following the tournament.  Special package deals include a Gold Sponsorship, Silver Sponsorship, Green/Tee or Putting Green Sponsor, and a Foursome Discount.  For more information, please call Rick Bunch 803-376-2037; or Teresa Lang 803-551-4547.

South Carolina has an official state dance: The Shag!  It originated in North Myrtle Beach during the late 30's and early 40's, when the beach jukeboxes and pavillions played R&B music.  These days, The Shag has its own music aptly named Beach Music.  The dance itself has smooth steps with emphasis on footwook.
