The 47th Annual Boat Show will take place at the South Carolina State Fairgrounds February 11th-14th! 16 area boat dealers and over 40 additional exhibitors will be on hand to answer any of your questions. . Wall-to-wall boats and accessories will pack all six buildings with runabouts, sport boats, fishing boats, cruisers, personal watercraft, jet boats, and high-performance boats—everything from 12 to 30 feet will be ready to board and buy! Friday, February 12-Saturday, February 13. Musicality: An Evening of Contemporary Dance. Using music from a variety of styles and influences; MUSICALITY, is a blend of soul, R&B, rock, house, hip-hop, and pop music. Choreographer Terrance Henderson explores another side of his creative process by making dances that reflect his love of music and the connection between the music, the dancer, and their audience. Audiences can expect to see dances choreographed to music by some of their favorite pop artists like Beyonce’, Jill Scott, Oasis, Gavin Degraw, vintage Mariah Carrey, Mary J. Blidge, and Stevie Wonder. Henderson will also premier a new work entitled “In My HOUSE,” collaboration with live DJ and percussionists. Visit Vibrations Dance Company for more information.

Saturday, February 13. 6th Annual About Face Face Off. South Carolina artists draw and paint portraits of one another in a head to head, single elimination competition. Artists 18 and older are invited to enter and are randomly paired, each painting or drawing the other’s portrait in the medium of choice. First prize is $500, and second prize is a $250 gift certificate to City Art. Two third prize winners receive a $25 gift certificate to the Museum Shop and a collection of exhibition catalogues. Saturday, February 13. Columbia's Longest Days. Columbia's Longest Days is a fun and educational day for the family sponsored by the Greater Columbia Civil War Alliance to commemorate General Sherman's March to Columbia, S.C. and the burning of the city. The day's activities will begin at 8:45 am with Union troops firing once more upon the State House from the West Columbia side of the Gervais Street Bridge. The day will continue in the atrium of the South Carolina State Museum with a Civil War Expo from 9 am until 4 pm. Tickets for the bus tours are $20 per person per bus tour. Saturday, February 13. "From Russia, with Love". “From Russia, with Love” stirs your Valentine’s passions and emotions with the music of Russia and France. Music Director Morihiko Nakahara presents much-loved music from 2009 Arthur Fraser International Concerto Competition winner Sean Yeh, performing Ravel’s Piano Concerto for the Left Hand. The piece exhibits Ravel’s characteristic French elegance and exploits the full range of the piano. Book-ending Yeh are some of Russia’s finest: the Romeo & Juliet Fantasy Overture by Tchaikovsky and the Rachmaninoff Third Symphony. It’s an evening you’ll be sure to love. Sunday, February 14. Art of Music: The Viola d’amore: Thomas Georgi & Friends. Love is in the air with the evocative and rarely heard viola d’amore – Italian for “violin of love.” Thomas Georgi, champion and scholar of the viola d'amore, presents a striking performance in the Museum's beautiful Baroque gallery, joined by Paul Miller, viola d’amore and Lucas Harris, lute. Tuesday, February 16. Masters in Beer Appreciation. Brixx Wood Fired Pizza at The Village at Sandhill is excited to be starting up it's beer dinners for 2010 and kicking off their 2010 MBA program. In the spirit of Mardi Gras, they'll be serving a Chicken Gumbo soup and a Cajun Jambalaya entree for dinner. The featured beers for the night will be from Abita Brewery and will include the following: Abita Turbodog, Abita Purple Haze, Abita Amber, and the Dixie Lager. Since everyone loves a great deal, they're offering dinner and a four ounce sample of each featured beer for only $10!
